The 14th international conference on Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage (DiPP2024) took place in Burgas, Bulgaria, from September 26 to 29, 2024. Innovative results, research projects, and applications in the fields of digitization, documentation, archiving, presentation, and preservation of global and national material and intangible cultural and scientific heritage were presented. The main focus was on ensuring open access to digitized cultural heritage and creating sustainable policies for its continuous digital storage and conservation. The forum showcased innovative technologies and prototypes that are the result of established practices and achievements in the field. Seventy-five researchers from Bulgaria and abroad, as well as representatives from public and specialized libraries, museums, galleries, archives, and centers, participated, exchanging experiences, ideas, knowledge, and best practices.
In the conference presentation titled “HPC Ecosystem and Competences in Bulgaria” (authors E. Atanassov, A. Karaivanova, and T. Gurov), following a brief introduction to the EuroCC2 project, the state of the HPC ecosystem in Bulgaria was outlined. This includes a diverse array of modern hardware (including two supercomputers from the TOP500 list — Discoverer and HEMUS, as well as numerous HPC clusters) and extensive expertise in HPC and related fields. The authors discussed new developments in the HPC ecosystem, supported by the acquisition of the HEMUS supercomputer in 2023, as well as the design solutions and optimization approaches implemented. There was significant interest from participants regarding the presentation and the related publication, particularly concerning the data storage system associated with HEMUS (with a capacity of 6.72 Petabytes) and the services provided by the National Competence Center in Bulgaria.
