On June 16, 2025, the Minister of Education and Science Krassimir Valchev visited IICT-BAS at the invitation of the institute’s management. The visit was also attended by the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva. The Chairman of the Scientific Council of IICT, Prof. Galya Angelova, made a brief presentation of the institute’s activities and the vision for its development. After the presentation, Minister Valchev visited the infrastructure complex of the Center for Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies.

In the Laboratory for 3D Digitization and Microstructural Analysis, projects aimed at digital documentation, analysis and visualization of cultural and historical heritage, developments with industrial application, as well as participation in a number of international scientific projects and partnerships were presented.

The High Performance Computing Center was also visited, where the following are located and operate:
• the petabyte data storage and processing system, providing
the ability to store and process 6.72 PB of data;
• the HEMUS supercomputer with nearly 100,000 cores and a performance of over 3 PetaFlops.
Minister Valchev was introduced to applications in the field of quantum computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, modeling of climatological data, modeling of processes in the field of drug design and bioinformatics, and others, for the work of which access to high-performance computing resources is of utmost importance.
